Eye Surgery Scotland
Eye Surgery Scotland was established by a group of Scottish eye surgeons to provide a centre of excellence for specialist eye services in Scotland and beyond. Our 3 primary aims are:
- 1. To provide the safest and most effective treatments tailored to patients’ individual needs
Modern eye surgeons have different areas of expertise meaning it can be difficult to know if you are being treated by someone with the relevant skills and experience. The consultants at Eye Surgery Scotland work together to ensure you are seeing the right person at the right time.
Each of our consultants is “fellowship trained” meaning they are experts in their chosen fields. Each of our consultants also work in NHS university hospitals and each has an annual appraisal to ensure they are up to date with the latest techniques. With private treatment, there are no waiting times meaning you can receive care as soon as it is needed. - 2. Lead research into new sight-saving treatments
Our consultants are involved in research activities aiming to develop new methods of detecting eye disease and introducing new sight-saving treatments. - 3. Provide education to optometrists and ophthalmologists at home and overseas
An important part of our work is education. Our specialists regularly host education events for optometrists and ophthalmologists. Eye Surgery Scotland is also keen to promote charity work to help reduce global blindness, with our consultants recently undertaking voluntary initiatives in countries including Malawi and Myanmar(Burma). We teach and train doctors from overseas to deliver their local services.
